Building

From the September 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Wherever there are walls for us to build,
Let us, like Nehemiah. learn the way.
Teach us before we plan our tasks to pray
To follow Thee, our own ambitions stilled.
Let all the plan be Thine—no part self-willed.
When we who have a mind to work obey
Thy leadership, Love's walls will rise today
Impregnable, complete, all breaches filled.

Keep us alert and armed when evil calls.
Give scorn and threatening and subtle plot
No right nor memory at any spot
Where we, together, now are building walls.
Thy hand upon us lay that all may see
The mighty work performed in unity.
