"SEEING HIM WHO IS INVISIBLE"

From the September 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

How often a verse from the Bible will open up a wide field of study filled with inspiration and practical value. An example is found in Hebrews, where we read of Moses (11:27), "By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible."

Moses endured; again and again he remained firm. He bore with patience the grumblings, doubt, and distrust of the children of Israel, as well as their frequent plea to return to Egypt. And how was he able to endure this and become the great Hebrew leader and lawgiver? Through faith and "as seeing him who is invisible"—through an understanding of the nature of God.

A passage to be found in the writings of Mary Baker Eddy throws light on this verse. Speaking of some of her healing works in her book "Unity of Good," Mrs. Eddy says (p. 7). "Certain self-proved propositions pour into my waiting thought in connection with these experiences; and here is one such conviction: that an acknowledgment of the perfection of the infinite Unseen confers a power nothing else can." God is made appreciable to mankind through the Christ, the spiritual idea of Love. Christian Science, revealing the spiritual meaning of the Bible, teaches that even before Jesus appeared on earth, the Christ, Truth, had always been present; and it is through the Christ that we understand God.
