SPIRITUAL ASSURANCE

From the September 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The wise student of Christian Science endeavors constantly to spiritualize his thinking. As he persists in this effort he gains definite assurance that God is the origin of man and that man is maintained by Him. He sees that acceptance of the fact that man is the idea, the expression, of divine Mind constitutes the secret place, where immunity from harm is assured.

One equipped with this understanding becomes less and less impressed by seeming phases of evil, however menacing they may appear, and is able in ever-increasing measure to gain dominion over false suggestions. He realizes that evil can no more be a part of God's universe than darkness can intrude itself upon light. This definite conviction of God's supremacy enables one with justifiable confidence to face, deny, and dispose of the subtle claim of error that there exists a power capable of producing mortal afflictions, a power which is the antithesis of good. Awareness of the all-inclusiveness of God, good, and the nothingness of evil constitutes the comfort which has come to mankind through the revelation of Christian Science.

Though limited human sense may find it difficult to comprehend the boundless nature of the infinite, it is entirely possible for one gradually to attain such understanding and to grasp the spiritual fact that there is just one consciousness, eternal Mind, in which the real man forever lives.
