Man is a capable being because, as the image and likeness of God, he reflects the infinite capacities of the infinite Mind, which is God. In proportion to the spiritualization of thought our capabilities are perfected. The mesmerism of material sense would confine us forever to the belief that we are mortals and that our capabilities are limited in extent and bounded by heredity and environment. Material sense endeavors to impress upon us the belief that we belong to the Adamic race and have existence apart from a spiritual First Cause, or Mind.
It is good to dwell upon man as the reflection of God, the creator. If our understanding of God is limited and finite, then our view of man will be hedged about with limitations. Before we can become aware of the unlimited capacities and capabilities of man we must understand the perfect and illimitable nature of God and His Christ as understood in Christian Science. The capabilities of Mind need no assistance from mortals. They exist in Mind and act as Mind's expression, and even in our present state we can become aware of them. Mary Baker Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 43), "Christian Science, recognizing the capabilities of Mind to act of itself, and independent of matter, enables one to heal cases without even having seen the individual,—or simply after having been made acquainted with the mental condition of the patient."
Through our acknowledgment of the infinite abilities of Mind and the limitless scope of spiritual activity we are able to recognize the action of divine power and dwell joyfully upon the fact that God. good, is omniactive. The Master understood the divine capability and man's inseparability from God, for he said (John 5:17). "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work." We must work to awaken our dormant capabilities. We can best do so by becoming aware of the infinite divine ability.
