While suffering from a nervous breakdown,...

From the April 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

While suffering from a nervous breakdown, I recalled that an aunt in a distant city had told me of Christian Science. Our family physician said that there was nothing he could do for me and that I would have to give up my work as a chemist for an indefinite time. As a last resort, I went to a neighboring town to see a Christian Science practitioner. When I arrived at her home. I was unable to talk of my problem, but merely wept. She seemed to understand my need. She told me that she would help me and that I was not to worry. Two days later I was completely healed. I wanted to shout for joy at the wonderful relief I felt. Although I was grateful beyond words, it did not occur to me to find out how I had been healed.

Years later, I was within a few hours made helpless by arthritis and was bedfast. I was unable to move, and the pain was excruciating. Two brothers-in-law who were physicians called in a third doctor for consultation. Then they told me that it was one of the worst cases they had ever seen and that I should never expect to walk again or ever to be entirely free from pain.

I remembered my former healing and asked a member of my family to call a Christian Science practitioner. Within a month I was completely free. Since then I have continued to study this remarkable religion. There has never been any recurrence of the disease or any aftereffects.
