About fifty years ago my mother's eldest sister was a semi-invalid on account of a kidney disorder which various kinds of medical treatment, including an operation, had failed to cure. Through Christian Science treatment she was permanently healed of this difficulty. Today she and five of her brothers and sisters are students of this religion of spiritual healing, which Jesus taught and demonstrated and which through Mrs. Eddy's spiritual-mindedness has been brought back into practice.
Some twenty-five years after this first healing in her family, my mother turned to Christian Science at a time of unhappiness and insecurity, though without thought of physical healing which she also needed greatly. She received the guidance she needed in that period of readjustment of her life and a few years later was permanently healed of gallstones, from which she had suffered for many years. A few years ago she was quickly healed of a severely injured shoulder and arm.
From birth my daughter suffered from constipation. When she was about eight months old, and all material remedies we knew of had failed, I consented, at my mother's recommendation, to take the baby to a Christian Science practitioner. I do not remember anything that was said by the practitioner, who was a very loving and gracious person, nor did I understand any of her explanations at the time. But one treatment was sufficient to bring the child's freedom. A few years later this child and her younger brother were each healed of whooping cough in one Christian Science treatment. About this time I began to attend church services with my mother and to read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy as well as copies of the Christian Science Sentinel, especially the testimonies, which encouraged me to keep on studying, even though I found much that I could not understand. The children were placed in the Christian Science Sunday School, and they grew up unusually strong and free from serious illnesses, proving the preventive as well as curative power of Science.
