ACCURACY

From the September 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One of the many blessings that come to us through the study of Christian Science is the awakening to the meaning of accurate thinking. Often before starting the study of this Science many of us had no real basis for our thinking. Much of it had been vague and haphazard, throwing us back and forth between the beliefs of good and evil, and to make matters worse, the beliefs of luck and chance were frequently added.

With the coming of Christian Science into our lives, however, things begin to change. We find that the former haphazard thinking, full of fear and uncertainty, was nothing more than the manifestation of the so-called carnal mind—named by Mary Baker Eddy mortal mind—which the Bible declared is "enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be" (Rom. 8:7). So we come to see that the carnal mind is totally without basis and without real existence.

As students of Christian Science we begin to glimpse something of God as the only Mind, divine Principle, Love, filling all space, and of man as His image and likeness. Step by step we learn how to replace false beliefs, coming from mortal mind, with divine ideas, emanating from the one Mind. With this awakening, more accuracy in thinking which is based on divine Principle begins to appear, bringing a great change for the better in our health and affairs, as well as the consciousness of more security, happiness, and freedom.
