"Thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left" (Isa. 30:21). What a beautiful and comforting assurance is ours when we realize that God is a very present help, to whom we can turn for comfort and guidance at any time and be certain that we shall receive the right answer.
As we grow in our understanding of Christian Science, we learn that God is not afar off, but that He is just as close to us as our own thinking. Our prayers are not those of mere pleading and supplication, but include affirmations of God's allness, perfection, and unchangeable goodness. We realize that, as the reflection of God, the real man is spiritual and possesses only Godlike qualities. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy we read (p. 470): "God is the creator of man, and, the divine Principle of man remaining perfect, the divine idea or reflection, man, remains perfect. Man is the expression of God's being." When we pray to God, we endeavor to realize and claim our true identity as His children.
When an unhappy or difficult situation arises in our daily lives, we sometimes accept the discord without a challenge or without any attempt to find the right solution. Many times we stumble and block our own paths by blindly tackling the problem from a human standpoint, allowing self-will to drown out the still small voice of Truth, which is always present and ready to lead us forward safely. Instead of becoming blinded by thoughts of self-pity, self-righteousness, discouragement, or confusion because we seem to be "going through" so much, let us learn to turn to God for our help.
