History records men's search through the centuries for the elixir of life—some potion or way by which life may be prolonged indefinitely or at least rejuvenated. This search, pursued unremittingly in medieval times, has not yet ceased. And yet the way of life was revealed for all to understand in the truth of being presented by Christ Jesus.
The Master announced the purpose of his mission with perfect clarity (John 10:10), "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." Unlike the alchemists of old, he proceeded to prove his teachings by healing the sick and raising the dead. Finally, after the crucifixion he made the supreme demonstration of his complete understanding of spiritual law, and emerging from the tomb, he walked, talked, and ate with his disciples until his ascending path of Spirit took him beyond their sight. Surely we need look no further for the elixir of life.
The law which the Master used fell into desuetude in the third century following his ascension, and it remained for Mary Baker Eddy to discover it and to restate it in terms which all may understand and utilize.
