Christian Science was presented to me for the second time about fifteen years ago. Several years before this I had seen my sister healed of pneumonia in a few hours, but had gradually forgotten about it. At the time Christian Science was again called to my attention I was unemployed, living on an inadequate income, drinking steadily, smoking, associating with those of questionable habits, and becoming hopeless and bitter. Several attempts to break away from this unhealthy environment resulted in failure.
My mother, knowing of my great need, persuaded me to seek the aid of a Christian Science practitioner. Feeling that I had nothing to lose, I consented. The practitioner, who was kind and gentle, expressed patience with my doubts, lovingly assured me of my spiritual identity as a son of God, and told me of man's complete freedom from lack, sin, disease, and death.
Within a very short time after she began work for me, certain changes came about which made it necessary for me to be absent from the city for a few weeks. Upon my return I was led to seek residence in a new locality. Thereafter, old associations fell away, and I was enabled to enjoy a freer, cleaner life. During this period I was instantaneously healed of both drinking and smoking. Furthermore, satisfactory employment was found, which amply met my needs.
