FORWARD TO WORK

From the September 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

At the close of the vacation period, when schools are opening and when many people return to work after the summer holidays, the statement is often made, "Now we go back to work." It would be well at such times for the Christian Scientist to think definitely of going forward to work.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 74), "In Christian Science there is never a retrograde step, never a return to positions outgrown." As the result of study and systematic application of truth in his daily affairs the Christian Scientist knows that he has progressed in his journey from sense to Soul. He accepts our Leader's assurance that man is constantly rising higher and higher from a basis that has no limits. Knowing this, he does not think of himself as going back to yesterday's work or associations with its problems, its disappointments, or even its material accomplishments. He goes forward to use the talents with which he is equipped, to rise higher in the demonstration of his birthright of dominion and majesty as the beloved of Love.

The Christian Scientist's ever-present help and guide is the Comforter, which, as Jesus told us, abides with us forever. It is revealed in Christian Science, which today unerringly guides and guards the footsteps of all who accept it as a companion and adviser. The student turns constantly to the truths of Science to tell him how to act and what to do in every circumstance—how to go forward with assurance.
