I first heard of Christian Science when living in Boston, Massachusetts. A girl with whom I was acquainted asked me to attend a Wednesday evening testimony meeting in The Mother Church. Even though I enjoyed the meeting and appreciated it, I did not go to the church again until about ten years later.
At that time I was going through very deep waters. The doctors said I would not live long, as I had a severe bronchial ailment. My family then consisted of my husband and two children, the younger of whom was three months old. A neighbor, to whom I shall always be grateful, asked me if I would care to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I accepted the invitation, and she loaned me this textbook.
After reading it for ten days I had a severe attack and was thought to be passing on by all those around except this dear neighbor, who did not give up hope, but continued to read to me from Science and Health and to pray for me. Within a short time I arose and walked. Then I slept all night, and in the morning I was able to take care of my two children. I read Science and Health every possible moment. Within two months, I was completely healed and was thereafter very active. I became a sincere student of Science, purchased the textbook, and daily studied the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly.
