I was led into the study and application of Christian Science for our son, who after six years of medical treatment was failing rapidly. He suffered from a painful case of eczema, accompanied by kidney trouble, headaches, and weakness. The doctor then in attendance told me that there was no help for him. He was healed in Christian Science after two and a half months of treatment by a practitioner.
I enrolled my children in the Sunday School, and I began attending the church services. I loved Christian Science and studied the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy daily and diligently. Healings of sickness and of various discords were the result, and my joy was immeasurable.
One day our son became very ill with a bad heart ailment. Christian Science was applied, and I worked to know that, as our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, tells us in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health (p. 473), "Christ is the ideal Truth, that comes to heal sickness and sin through Christian Science, and attributes all power to God." However, the third evening the boy became very much worse. Fear presented itself many times, but I turned wholeheartedly to God. The night was long, but God was very near. At five o'clock in the morning the boy remarked, "I think I can go to bed now." I agreed with him, and he arose to do so. On my way to bed I humbly prayed the Lord's Prayer, and I continued to pray earnestly as long as I remained awake.
