Words cannot express the gratitude I...

From the December 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Words cannot express the gratitude I feel for Christian Science and for Mary Baker Eddy, our beloved Leader, who gave us this wonderful religion.

A healing that has taught me many treasured lessons was one which a small child in our family experienced. While visiting his grandparents in another city, he manifested a condition of ivy poisoning. One of the grandparents, who was not a Christian Scientist, tried different medicines and treatments for the child, but without success.

When the child returned to our home I was told of what had occurred and of the difficult time experienced in trying to get rid of the poisoning. I was not alarmed, for I realized that Christian Science treatment is certain and effectual. God does not make a plant that can cause one of His little ones to suffer. With my realization of this truth, the condition disappeared almost immediately. The next year the child again showed the evidence of ivy poisoning. I worked as we are taught in Christian Science, but the healing was not immediate. Then, as I prayed to rise above the false testimony, this thought came to me clearly: "Who is telling you that the child has ivy poisoning? Is God telling you that about His child?" I was aroused immediately to see that there was nothing wrong with the child made in God's image and that there was no one to know a wrong condition because God is Mind, and He is All-in-all. The evidence of poisoning then disappeared.
