DEMONSTRATING THE EVER-PRESENCE OF GOOD

From the May 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Good flows from God, divine Love, and is, like Love itself, limitless and ever available. In recognition of God's all-encompassing goodness, King David sang (I Chron. 29: 12), "Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all."

It is self-evident to the student of Christian Science that God, the infinite and eternal Mind, can express Himself only in or as universal and absolute good. The divine nature of His goodness evidences itself throughout His creation in undiminishable and unvarying harmony and perfection. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scritures" Mary Baker Eddy says (p. 277): "As God Himself is good and is Spirit, goodness and spirituality must be immortal. Their opposites, evil and matter, are mortal error, and error has no creator. If goodness and spirituality are real, evil and materiality are unreal and cannot be the outcome of an infinite God, good." Science and Health shows that happiness and continued well-being represent the natural state of man.

The writer recalls vividly her first and joyful finding of the wonderful truths of Christian Science and their healing effect. She had not yet read any authorized literature on Christian Science or held a copy of Science and Health in her hand, but a friend had told her of its marvelous teachings, and she was led to attend a Sunday service in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. While deeply impressed by the dignity and gracious simplicity of the service and by the sense of peace she experienced while there, she did not, it seemed, retain anything that was read, except that she knew that the general theme was God's omnipotence and omnipresence.
