Words are inadequate to express my gratitude for Christian Science and the many blessings it has brought into my experience. As our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, says (Science and Health, p. 3): "Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks. Action expresses more gratitude than speech." I became interested in Christian Science some months after I witnessed the beautiful healing of a friend through the application of the truth after physicians had given up the case as hopeless. The Christian Science practitioner through whose work the healing came invited me to attend the services in a Church of Christ, Scientist. I visited this church, and when I heard "the scientific statement of being" (ibid., p. 468) read near the close of the service, I knew that Christian Science was what I had been looking for.
I began a diligent study to gain an understanding of this Science, and I have been well rewarded through the years. In one treatment by a practitioner I was healed of habitual cigarette smoking. As I continued to apply what I understood, and at various times to receive help from practitioners, false traits of character such as willfulness, temper, and ingratitude were also healed.
More than once lost articles have been recovered when the truth regarding the situation has been held steadfastly in consciousness. Even when the case appeared hopeless, the articles were recovered. When I moved across the United States, a box containing items dear to me was misplaced by the moving company. Although lost for six weeks, this box was returned to me with the contents intact.
