From the July 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science services, being always open to the public, are frequently attended by seekers for Truth who have little or no acquaintance with the teachings of Christian Science. Also, for several years, services have been made available occasionally by radio to listeners who are wholly unacquainted with the teachings of Christian Science. For the information of all the listeners, the Readers indicate in every service the source of the passages they are about to read.

At No. 2 in the order of services for Sunday (see page 120 of the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy), the First Reader in The Mother Church, before reading from the Bible, says, "The Scriptural selection is from...," naming the book from which he is to read. When the reading is from two books of the Bible, the First Reader announces, "I shall read selections from the Scriptures," naming the first book from which he is to read and reading from it, then announcing the name of the second book and reading from it. Whether from one book or two, the reading is comprised of not more than two citations.

The Second Reader in The Mother Church, before reading the Scriptural references in the Lesson-Sermon, announces the words, "The Bible," which appear at the head of the column of references in the Christian Science Quarterly.
