AN ANNUAL PRIVILEGE

From the August 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The members of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, have certain duties and privileges. One of them is that of presenting each year at least one Christian Science lecture. Such an annual duty should be a joy and not merely a matter of routine; but joy comes only in the degree that the members understand what the presenting of a lecture means. To experience this joy, they have to discern the spiritual idea underlying the lecture and its presentation.

The loving service of those who take part in the activity of providing a lecture evidences the Christ. A lecture serves as an opportunity for the Christ, Truth, to reach humanity and thus to destroy sin and heal sickness. Church members can be assured that as a result of their consecrated and united efforts, those spiritually ready will indeed see Christ walk to them over earth's troubled sea, and hear Truth's voice saying (Matt. 14:27), "It is I; be not afraid."

Christian Science teaches that divine Love can never be deprived of its manifestation. When the work of the church members is based upon the understanding of this fact, seekers for Truth will be attracted by Spirit, and will hear clearly the message of the Christ, Truth. The members will recognize the fact that there is but one Mind, God; therefore there is no mortal mind to hinder the declaration of truth or to prevent its reception by those ready to receive the Christ. If the members are all of one Mind, then the whole community will feel the divine influence of Mind.
