God is eternally good. His goodness is ever available to all. Hence, no matter how difficult a problem may be, victory is always assured when we turn to Him aright.
Today the great necessity for every one of us is to gain the victory over the sense of enmity or warfare within our own consciousness. Surely war must first be overcome within the heart of each individual before the world can be wholly and permanently saved from it. Mary Baker Eddy says in her article "Love Your Enemies" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 8), "Simply count your enemy to be that which defiles, defaces, and dethrones the Christ-image that you should reflect." Farther on in the same article she states, "Even in belief you have but one (that, not in reality), and this one enemy is yourself—your erroneous belief that you have enemies; that evil is real; that aught but good exists in Science." Thus Christian Science teaches that the concept of warring mortals, whether in a family, a business, a nation, or a world of nations, is based on the lie of a false material mentality. Where these warring mortals seem to be, God's ideas are dwelling forever in the peace and harmony of the one divine Mind. To realize these facts is to gain the victory over error.
Speaking of the weapons that we must use to gain the victory over evil, the Apostle Paul writes (II Cor. 10:4, 5), "(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ."
