Whether we are aware of it or not, each of us is choosing a basis of operation many times a day. Each decision is the result either of our understanding of God as Mind, the source of all intelligence, or of our lack of understanding or false conception of God. Our success or failure, our happiness or despair, is the outcome of our decisions. Making the all-knowing Mind, as revealed in Christian Science, our basis of operation, we may remain calm and serene in moments of threatened peril. We may also choose to make divine, all-harmonious Mind our basis when material means for meeting problems suggest themselves. Reliance on the all-loving Mind ensures a harmonious solution to every problem.
Through the study of the Bible, together with "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, many Christian Scientists are daily remaining un-worried, undismayed, and unalarmed under trying circumstances. There is a confident sense of assurance and poise which fairly radiates from one who has found that the only source of intelligence is God, infinite Mind.
In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 423): "The matter-physician deals with matter as both his foe and his remedy. He regards the ailment as weakened or strengthened according to the evidence which matter presents. The metaphysician, making Mind his basis of operation irrespective of matter and regarding the truth and harmony of being as superior to error and discord, has rendered himself strong, instead of weak, to cope with the case; and he proportionately strengthens his patient with the stimulus of courage and conscious power."
