"Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not."
These words from the first epistle of John (3:1) are read at each Sunday service in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, and are much studied and pondered by the members. Citizens of the world apparently spend their days in close contact with a world which calls upon them for constant thought and activity. On the surface this seems simple enough; yet in each individual experience questions arise which demand clear and satisfying answers. The world seems to be restricted in thought, limited in action, questionable as to motives; a world of erratic ambitions, divided loyalties, mistaken standards. It appears to be a place of fear, sin, and suffering, and its supposed laws ordain that man is subject to illness, poverty, heartbreak, and finally death. Small wonder that mankind through all the ages has been asking, "What is it all about?"
Those who find in Christian Science the needed answer to this and other similar queries are a steadily growing multitude. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy, with unshakable logic, gives the solution to that which human reason finds to be a riddle. Thorough study of this textbook and of the Bible, upon which it is based, is necessary for a workable understanding of divine Science.
