When our first son was born, healthy and strong, the doctor in attendance exclaimed, "Oh, I thought that baby would not be alive!" The Christian Science nurse had previously been a medical nurse, and she later explained that a condition had been manifested, which, according to medical science, results in the death of an infant. The Christian Science practitioner who was helping me was in a city fifteen miles away. She told me afterward that she had spent all that night before the birth declaring the Truth, because she had felt that something was wrong.
At the age of six weeks this baby went for eight days without a bowel movement. When I released him from the fear in my thought and acknowledged him as actually God's child, the healing came. When he started school, we were told he needed to have his tonsils removed and treatment from a foot specialist. These conditions were met by Christian Science treatment. Later when he took a physical examination prior to entering the Marine Corps, he was rated physically and mentally at the top of the group taking the examination.
After he had been in the service a few months, I was awakened one morning by a frightening dream about this boy. I worked until I was sure in my own thinking that, no matter what physical evidence might be presented, it could be no more real than the dream I had been having. Later that day the boy wrote us a letter saying that he had just missed being shot by a 45 caliber automatic pistol which he had handed to a companion to check. Something prompted him to move, and the bullet passed through the space in which he had just been standing. He wrote: "I was wonderfully protected. I am sure glad I am a Christian Scientist, and that you brought me up that way. Thank you very much."
Our second son was inclined to be carsick and to suffer from a nervous stomach. This trouble was completely healed, and when he went for his first airplane ride in a little four-seater on a day that the air was bumpy, he was not bothered at all.
Our youngest son's hand was caught in the wringer of a washing machine and went through to the wrist before it was released. Without looking at the hand, I held to the statement (Science and Health, p. 393), "Have no fear that matter can ache, swell, and be inflamed as the result of a law of any kind, when it is self-evident that matter can have no pain nor inflammation." Less than half an hour later the boy was about his play, and the next day the hand was normal.
We have had healings of asthma, measles, whooping cough, chicken pox, impetigo, insect stings, colds, and earaches. Mumps and ivy poisoning have disappeared overnight.
When we purchased our present home, it was necessary to sell our old house and arrange within a ninety-day period satisfactory mortages for ourselves and for the buyer of our house. One night when things appeared to be at a standstill, I awoke and found myself repeating (Science and Health, p. 283), "Mind is the source of all movement, and there is no inertia to retard or check its perpetual and harmonious action." Shortly afterward all arrangements were satisfactorily completed.
I can truthfully say that Christian Science has met all our needs for over twenty years, and I am extremely grateful for the loving practitioners who have helped us along the way.— Randolph, Massachusetts.
I am glad to verify my wife's testimony, and I am grateful for healings of a strained wrist and back, crushed fingers, and burns from molten lead. In addition, Christian Science has helped me in overcoming the fear of speaking at meetings. I am grateful for the opportunity of serving in a branch church.—
