Christian Science reveals that true atomic force is actually spiritual, not material. Mary Baker Eddy says (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 190): "Atomic action is Mind, not matter. It is neither the energy of matter, the result of organization, nor the outcome of life infused into matter." This statement is opposed to the theories and claims of those who are studying, developing, and utilizing the so-called material energy supposed to be latent in a material atom.
From the viewpoint of Christian Science, all matter or material energy is a false belief—that which has no power, presence, or reality. Matter and its so-called energy and action are thus shown to be counterfeits, because Spirit is All and omnipotent and its creations are spiritual, eternal, useful, and indestructible. The only true substance, therefore, is spiritual, and the only real energy or atomic force is evidenced through "Christ," which our Leader defines in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" as (p. 583), "The divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error."
Now, Christ, Truth, reveals the Godlike nature of each one of us and our true being as ideas of Spirit; and "incarnate error" is the belief of life and intelligence in matter. The power of the Christ equips each one of us with the might of Spirit. It enables us to meet and destroy through Godlike knowing and living every false threat and effect of the counterfeit beliefs and false claims of materiality.
