As we study the record of the healing works of Christ Jesus, it is evident that he consistently acknowledged God as the source of his ability and goodness. He said (John 14:10), "The Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works." Thus he reminded his followers that it was not human power which enabled him to heal all manner of sickness and disease. He was conscious of his ability to express the good his Father imparted to him, to reflect God's love and perfection.
For many years before she discovered Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy had been searching the Scriptures in an effort to learn how Jesus healed. Through this earnest study, she discovered that he was able to heal the sick and even raise the dead through looking to God as the only power. Jesus never used material means or methods. It was knowing that God is wholly perfect and therefore does not send disease or even know discord which enabled Mrs. Eddy to follow the example of Jesus and heal as he did.
On page 7 of her book "Unity of Good," Mrs. Eddy tells how she was able to heal cancer, replace dislocated joints, and raise the dying to health through clearly knowing that God does not recognize disease or send it to His children. Then on the same page she makes this significant statement which emphasizes how important it is in the healing work to express gratitude for God's perfection: "Certain self-proved propositions pour into my waiting thought in connection with these experiences; and here is one such conviction: that an acknowledgment of the perfection of the infinite Unseen confers a power nothing else can."
