What a joyful event it was when I learned through the blessed teachings of Christian Science that we can find harmony, love, health, and holiness—the kingdom of heaven—here and now through spiritual living and thinking! I am grateful for physical healings, including those of hemorrhoids, constipation, influenza, headaches, and effects of accidents. A tendency to allow small things to irritate me, the temptation to blame others if things went wrong, curiosity about the affairs of other people, and the morbid practice of looking back with regret have been banished by a knowledge of their false origin.
My small son got up one morning with sore eyes and did not want to go to school. After breakfast we studied a part of the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly, repeated the Lord's Prayer, and gratefully remembered that man is God's perfect child. Then I told my son that if his eyes should hurt him while at school, to repeat the Lord's Prayer, the First Commandment, and the first beatitude. He went off to school, and I continued to work prayerfully for him. When he came home for lunch, his eyes were no better.
This impelled me to examine my own thinking, and I saw that I should have given him some simple, specific truth to use. Upon sending him back to school, I told him that if his eyes troubled him to think of eyes as really spiritual, not material.
