No words can adequately express my gratitude for Christian Science. For twenty-six years it has been a guide and help in every aspect of my life, and it has never failed. Due to an earthquake, I was left a widow with two little boys to support and no income. It was this experience which led me to seek earnestly for the truth.
I now had to find work of some sort to support us, and it was in my first position that I came in contact with a Christian Scientist, whose positive yet understanding approach arrested my attention. I found a Christian Science Reading Room and procured a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. When I read the opening sentences of this wonderful book, I knew I had found that for which I had been looking.
These words of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, in "Retrospection and Introspection" were, in a measure, proved for me (pp. 27, 28) "The divine hand led me into a new world of light and Life, a fresh universe—old to God, but new to His 'little one.'" I read the textbook almost constantly even though for a long time I could not understand more than the first chapter, where I found comfort and guidance. Later came the great privilege of being accepted as a member of The Mother Church. I also joined a branch church, and I am sincerely grateful for the many lessons learned through this experience.
