I wish to acknowledge my gratitude for...

From the March 1958 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I wish to acknowledge my gratitude for the many blessings I have received since I began the study of Christian Science about thirty-five years ago.

Early in life I wondered why in time of need my prayers failed to help me. Many dark and sad days followed before I learned of Christian Science. Later I found that "the darkest hour precedes the dawn." After I had read a few chapters in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I realized I had found the pearl of great price, even though at first I found it difficult to understand much of this textbook. However, this Science not only healed me of physical difficulties including appendicitis, for which doctors said an operation was the only solution, but it taught me how to be a better Christian.

The first thing I grasped in my study of Christian Science was that one can pray without ceasing, as we are told to do in the Bible. This formerly had caused me a great deal of concern, but after learning that "desire is prayer" (Science and Health, p. 1), I knew that I could pray not only in church, but in the home while going about my household duties and in traveling along the highway as well. Wherever I happened to be, I could say with the Psalmist (Ps. 139:8), "Behold, thou art there." My joy knew no bounds.
