THE POWER OF INNOCENCE

From the August 1958 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christ Jesus' understanding of the innocence of God and of man in His image enabled him to comprehend his own true innocence and gave him his great power over all phases of mortal malice and its effects, namely sin, disease, and death. Spiritual innocence, expressed in human experience in purity of thought and deed, will do the same today for everyone who practices it. Therefore it is essential to success in living and healing that one be found innocent in all respects.

One of the first steps toward overcoming any maliciously discordant condition or circumstance is to learn the essentials of Christianly scientific practice. This includes the understanding of the absolute innocence of God, divine Mind, and of man, His perfect reflection, as well as the recognition of the illusory nature of matter and its effects. The truth that man is spiritually innocent is a sound basis for one's proving this fact in every walk of life.

Man is the individualized expression of God, divine Mind. He is not a guilty outcast from the kingdom of heaven. He is innocent in the highest degree. Men demonstrate innocence humanly and progressively to the extent that they permit the power of God, divine Life, Truth, and Love, to be reflected in consciousness and to cleanse it of all sin. This is not always a comfortable process, but it brings forth grand results.
