In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 460), "Ontology is defined as 'the science of the necessary constituents and relations of all beings,' and it underlies all metaphysical practice."
"Ontologism" is defined in a dictionary as a philosophy which holds that "man has an immediate and certain knowledge of God, and that this knowledge is the foundation and guaranty of all his knowledge." This statement is in agreement with our Leader's words that ontology underlies all metaphysical practice. And metaphysical practice in the light of Christian Science includes healing the sick and regenerating the sinner.
"Man has an immediate and certain knowledge of God." This fact is in direct accordance with the Science of Spirit. And the knowledge of God is the foundation of all our knowledge. With an understanding of God, the ever-directing Principle, we gain assurance. We see that we can, like Solomon of old, pray for and expect to receive wisdom and the ability to discern between good and bad.
