With what is one living? If one's thinking is based on the understanding of man's eternal oneness, or unity, with God, his answer will be that he lives with God and therefore with His serenity, security, and dominion.
On the other hand, if the individual regards himself as a mortal, with a consciousness and life separate from God, he may feel that he lives with uncertainty, with fears and frustrations of various kinds. Accepting the material sense of things, individuals believe themselves to be corporeal personalities involved in a world of contradictions and subject to forces over which they have no control and from which there is no means of preservation.
To show one how to claim the positive and joyous understanding of man's relationship with God is one of the purposes of Christian Science, and daily more and more students are rejoicing in freedom and deliverance through their understanding of the oneness of God and man. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 316), "Christ illustrates that blending with God, his divine Principle, which gives man dominion over all the earth."
