It is recorded in Luke that as Christ Jesus was preaching, "his mother and his brethren" came to see him and "could not come at him for the press" (8:19). We read: "And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee. And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it."
True kinship, therefore, is not based on blood ties or material generation. It is not concerned with material lineage or family traditions. It does not flaunt about with pomp and pride of material ancestry. True kinship is blessed of the Father. Jesus counseled (Matt. 23:9), "Call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven."
True kinship is the sacred expression of the Christ, Truth, in consciousness, whereby the attributes of God unite individuals in the fulfillment of spiritual kinship.
