Christian Science was presented to me about twelve years ago. It was in September, and a relative told me about the physical, mental, and moral benefits obtained through the study of this Science. At that time I was very much worried about my son's studies because he was not making any progress in his schoolwork. On the advice of his teachers, I had him consult the best specialists and psychiatrists, but without results. Then the thought came to me that if I applied myself to the study of Christian Science, I would perhaps be able to help my boy. I did not know then that I would reap the fruits of this study before he did.
I procured a Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and began reading. This reading was a slow process, because it was necessary for me to understand the truths which were being presented and which were so totally different from the teachings I had formerly received.
At the beginning of December, I began to have severe attacks of asthma. I had suffered from this illness during the war. Soon after these attacks began, I read in the textbook (p. 422): "If the reader of this book observes a great stir throughout his whole system, and certain moral and physical symptoms seem aggravated, these indications are favorable. Continue to read, and the book will become the physician, allaying the tremor which Truth often brings to error when destroying it."
