Christian Science declares that it is Mind, not matter, which sees and hears. The material eye does not contain the power of sight, nor can the material ear hold or withhold the ability to hear. This is brought out clearly in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health, where Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 485): "Science declares that Mind, not matter, sees, hears, feels, speaks. Whatever contradicts this statement is the false sense, which ever betrays mortals into sickness, sin, and death."
We cannot apprehend Deity or discern any of the grand realities of being through the material senses. These senses, confined to the realm of false belief, present merely a counterfeit of the real man and the real universe. This counterfeit is material, temporary, and destructible, even though sometimes beautiful.
By rejecting the false theories about seeing and hearing, evolved by belief, thought is opened to consider the question: "How does Mind, God, see and hear?" Prayerful study of Christian Science will unfold to the student something of the infinitude of God, all-seeing Love, who is ever perceptive of each of His ideas and who is aware of the perfection of His spiritual creation.
