REMOVING THE CAUSE OF DISEASE

From the December 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Every discordant effect in the body is produced by some mental error entertained, not destroyed. If such an erroneous belief is not taken into account, discerned, and cast out, the body is apt to take on the consequence of evil or fearful thinking.

There is no scientific reason why an individual should become involved with such consequences or suffer their continuance. In Christian Science one finds the spiritual remedy for discord of every nature. The use of this remedy requires a spiritual conviction of God's all-presence and power and of man's perfect relationship to Him as His reflection. As one understands God's allness and perfection and has a willingness to abandon known or unknown errors that pervade thought, these errors will come to the surface, and their destruction is then at hand.

There is no tiresome struggle involved in the removal of the mental cause of disease. A sincere effort of course must be made, a cross must be taken up, spiritual sense must be developed, but it is not a heavily toilsome task. Rather is it a joyous activity, an activity naturally culminating in the restoration of normal conditions of the body.
