"THE ETERNAL INFORMING SOUL"

From the December 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Christmas season, rightly interpreted, points human thought to the truths of being which the Saviour received from God and proved in ineffable compassion for mankind. Christ Jesus, whose birth the Christian world celebrates, showed humanity how to break the bonds of mortality and escape from the grasp of material sense in which men's woes and limitations appear.

The Master taught us to look to God, to Soul, for information. He described himself to his opponents as "a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God," and he said, "He that is of God heareth God's words" (John 8:40, 47). Those who listen for the same truth through means revealed by Christian Science celebrate Christmas in constant freshness of inspiration. They rejoice in the truth that God is infinite and that man is His likeness, subject only to laws of harmony and health, love and immortality. These truths were among those revealed to our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, when she received the vast information from Soul which she designated Christian Science. Her discovery has made a perpetual Christmas possible to those who are receptive to that information.

Mrs. Eddy says of Christmas in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (pp. 259, 260), "It represents the eternal informing Soul recognized only in harmony, in the beauty and bounty of Life everlasting,—in the truth that is Life, the Life that heals and saves mankind."
