THE OFFICE OF READER

From the February 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"BEHOLD, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared" (Ex. 23:20). This comforting assurance which God gave to Moses and the Israelites is true for all of us. When we are willing to serve our Father-Mother God, we find that He brings us into the place which He has prepared, and nothing can interfere with His purpose.

Each activity of the Christian Science movement is designed to promote not only the Cause but also individual spiritual growth. The necessity of each activity was revealed through divine inspiration to Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.

Mrs. Eddy states in "Retrospection and Introspection" (pp. 90, 91): "It is safe to leave with God the government of man. He appoints and He anoints His Truth-bearers,  and God is their sure defense and refuge." Therefore whenever elections in branch Churches of Christ, Scientist, draw near, we have a definite obligation to see that our preparatory work is faithfully and obediently executed. Among the provisions in the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy is that for Readers. The Manual requires that the Readers be well educated and that they read understandingly.
