"THE SEEING EYE"

From the February 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

MANY demands are made upon our eyesight, not only for reading, but in business, driving, entertainment, home activities, and so on. The value of good eyesight is apparent. Yet humanity has been persuaded that visual defects are a general rule and that visual correction must be accomplished through some physical means.

However, Christian Science teaches us how to resist mentally all the intrusive claims of mortal mind. Through Christian Science a member of my family in middle age laid aside spectacles that she had worn for over twenty years and never used them again, even when quite elderly. Christian Science treatment helps the individual to gain the spiritual view of his real self as the perfect child or idea of God, as the possessor by reflection of divine ability and discernment.

The five physical senses always present an argument of limitation: limitation of ability, of endurance, of accomplishment. Man is presented as mechanical and physical. But what an inversion of the facts this is!
