Poems

Grace

From the April 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Grace is expressed in every lifting wing,
In arching step of fawn through brookside ferns,
In curve of ocean wave with upward fling,
And in the lilt of words a poet turns.
But grace of thought is much more beautiful
And meaningful than simple rhythmic sway;
It shines out in the spirit's miracle—
A heart that sings upon a cloudy day.
I saw it glow the night I overheard
A strong man say in true humility,
"Forgive me for the hasty, arrowed word
That held a barb of sharp hostility."

Grace is the cadenced energy of Soul
That tunes the world to one harmonious whole.
