ABOUT THE FATHER'S BUSINESS

From the May 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Wist ye not," Jesus said, "that I must be about my Father's business?" (Luke 2:49,) Do all of us, both men and women, who go daily about the duties of living and of making a living, know what our true and only business is?

Mrs. Eddy has given us in the Manual of The Mother Church a remarkable statement on alertness, which it is the privilege of all Christian Scientists to ponder during their business day. It reads (Art. VIII, Sect. 6): "It shall be the duty of every member of this Church to defend himself daily against aggressive mental suggestion, and not be made to forget nor to neglect his duty to God, to his Leader, and to mankind. By his works he shall be judged,— and justified or condemned."

All of us who actively and constantly abide by this clear statement will demonstrate abundant harmony, happiness, achievement, and supply. It makes no difference whether our daily occupation is that of production worker, salesman, secretary, or corporation president. All of us have to defend ourselves daily against the aggressive suggestions of materiality by realizing that man, God's reflection, responds only to Him, Spirit.
