GUARDING ONE'S THINKING

From the May 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

What does it really mean to guard one's thinking? How can one successfully select thoughts only from God? Is it really necessary for one to challenge every thought presented to him? Such questions as these are sometimes asked the Christian Scientist.

Guarding one's thinking is an activity which we are called upon to do every minute of every day. Each of us has the opportunity to choose his own thoughts and to select only those which are from God, such as wisdom, purity, and love, and to reject all evil suggestions as powerless and unreal.

At times this choice is simple and clearly defined. But there are other times when the choice seems most difficult. There are times when mortal mind would suggest to one that he does not have a clear enough understanding of God to recognize error's more subtle suggestions.
