On page 365 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy is a statement which reads, "If the Scientist reaches his patient through divine Love, the healing work will be accomplished at one visit, and the disease will vanish into its native nothingness like dew before the morning sunshine." The application of this truth has resulted in three immediate healings in my family.
The first of these was the healing of our younger daughter, then about eighteen months old, of a fever and almost total loss of kidney function. Members of the family who are not Christian Scientists insisted on a consultation with a doctor; so an appointment with one was made. Although I continued to pray as we learn in Christian Science, I felt much fear, doubt, and discouragement. Suggestions came to me that Science had failed and that I was unloving to allow the child to suffer while material means could ease her. They roused me to an instant and audible denial. I said substantially: "You are lies. I know that divine Science never fails, for it is the law of God that cannot fail. It is because I do love my child that I want her to have the one sure remedy for all ills."
I asked humbly for just one ray of light. Opening the Bible at random. I read from Psalm 34 (verse 7), "The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them." A joyful flood of love and gratitude ejected all fear and doubt. Going to the child, I found not only that she was free from fever, but also that a scratch she had received that morning under one eye had vanished. The kidneys resumed their functioning, and the child was well. The appointment with the doctor was not kept.
