A number of years ago my husband and I were in a difficult and seemingly hopeless situation resulting from poor health, inharmonious working conditions, and financial reverses. Several times I had undergone surgery, and my husband had been under medical treatment, but to no avail, and he was no longer able to work at his trade. I was suffering at this time from a nervous breakdown. Then I awakened about three o'clock one morning and found my husband unable to speak and paralyzed completely on one side. I called a doctor, who came immediately. He pronounced my husband's condition to be beyond medical aid. He then left us without having given any medication, saying he would return later.
For some time a sister of my husband's had been telling us of Christian Science, but we had made no effort to take up its study. However, in this extremity, I went to the telephone and called my sister-in-law. I asked her to call a Christian Science practitioner to help my husband through prayer, and she said she would do so at once.
My husband had fallen into a coma, and I left his room and remained seated in an adjoining one for some time. At about seven o'clock one of our married sons arrived at our home. I started to tell him of what had taken place, but even as I began to speak, his father called to us in a clear voice. We rushed into his room and found him well, speaking rationally, and able to move normally. Shortly he arose and walked into the kitchen. This was our introduction to the healing power of Christian Science.
