LET US REVERSE, NOT REHEARSE, ERROR

From the December 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

As one studies the accounts in the Bible of the healings which were brought about as the direct result of the understanding which Christ Jesus possessed of the spiritual nature of man and as one notes his immediate reversal of the evidence which the material senses continually presented to him, one realizes that denial of the claim that there is intelligence in matter is of the utmost importance before the truth can be demonstrated. "We undo the statements of error by reversing them," asserts Mrs. Eddy in "Unity of Good" (p. 20).

After Jesus had healed an epileptic child who had been brought to him, the disciples, who had failed to heal the boy, inquired, "Why could not we cast him out?" (Matt. 17:19.)

Jesus replied, "Because of your unbelief." He said also, "This kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting." The disciples had accepted as true the false testimony of material sense which rehearsed the inharmonious conditions. The Master's teachings make it plain that fasting is the reversing of such false testimony. The devil which Jesus cast out of the boy was the claim that evil is real.
