I am deeply grateful for the conviction that Christian Science heals. I have witnessed many proofs of the protecting and healing power of God, divine Mind, including the overcoming of infection, influenza, scarlet fever, grief, nervousness, and headaches.
When I first began to rely on Christian Science, I was suffering from severe headaches. The first few times, after two or three days of suffering, I stopped Christian Science treatment and resorted to headache pills. But each time it was a miserable experience for me because I was sure that what I had read in the Christian Science textbook was the truth.
A sentence from the textbook came to my thought as I studied and prayed. Mrs. Eddy writes (pp. 169,170), "The good that a poisonous drug seems to do is evil, for it robs man of reliance on God, omnipotent Mind, and according to belief, poisons the human system." As I continued to read, the desire to prove this wonderful truth became so strong that I finally threw away the headache pills that were left, determined to rely entirely on God, no matter how prolonged the pain might seem to be. I again requested the help of a practitioner.
