Testimonies of Healing

Only through radical reliance on Truth...

From the December 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized," writes Mrs. Eddy on page 167 of Science and Health. Having been brought up in Christian Science, I had often read this statement; but it was not until I was a student in college that this healing power was shown to me through my radical reliance on God.

In my last year in high school an acute lung condition developed that made my attendance at school very irregular. Most of the time it was uncomfortable for me to sing, laugh, or even talk. Since our family had always relied on its religion for help, a Christian Science practitioner was called. I went to the practitioner's home, and after I had talked with her for a short time, the fear I had about this condition began to abate. When I left her, I felt completely at ease, and I realized that I was always in God's care.

Shortly after this my mother sensed that I was under the burden of material pressure: I had applied to enter a big university that fall and had much to do before that time. She called to my attention the passage in which Mrs. Eddy says (ibid., p. 451), "Christian Scientists must live under the constant pressure of the apostolic command to come out from the material world and be separate."
