Testimonies of Healing

From childhood I have loved the Bible...

From the April 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

From childhood I have loved the Bible and its promises. However, until I became a student of Christian Science, the Bible seemed contradictory in places, hidden in mystery.

After the First World War, I found that the orthodox church did not meet my need, nor did it bring satisfaction as it had done before; so I became discouraged and drifted away from church, seeking happiness in worldly pleasures. I soon found they were fleeting and unsatisfactory, leading only to more trouble. During the depression years of the thirties I found myself in the valley of despair and was in a sad state when a good neighbor, seeing my need, lent me a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. My need was great, and I was ready for the blessing. I recognized Christian Science as the truth for which I had longed and had previously failed to find.

The first proof I had that Truth, God, heals came about as a result of a testimony I heard at a Wednesday evening meeting when I was a new student. A man told of how he had been healed of some troublesome warts on his hands. This testimony made a deep impression on me, for at the time I too had several warts on my hands. I remember thinking: "If 'God is no respecter of persons,' as the Bible says (Acts 10:34), and if the teachings of Christian Science are true—and I believe they are— then I too can be healed." I resolved to put Christian Science to the test.
