THE STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE

From the October 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It was said of Jesus, "He hath done all things well" (Mark 7:37). This consistent well-doing was the result of his conscientious expression of God. Jesus was able to express God effectively because he was constantly seeking to understand Him better, and this endeavor was rewarded with an increasing awareness of the unchangeable perfection of God's work, wherein there is no mistake, no disorder, no procrastination, no apathy. This spiritual view, or spiritual sense, of creation produced Jesus' high standard of thought and action.

Christian Science recognizes, as Jesus did, that a correct understanding of the unchanging divine Principle of being, God, is the only acceptable basis upon which thought and action can be founded, for only through understanding the true nature of God can we come to experience and express the true nature of His creation, in which man is God's highest idea. A keystone in the correct understanding of God and man is given by Mrs. Eddy on page 259 of Science and Health. There she declares, "The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea,— perfect God and perfect man,—as the basis of thought and demonstration."

Christian Science has revealed to this age that God and the real man are indeed perfect in every respect, and it seeks to reveal to mankind the infinite breadth of this perfection through making known the specific qualities or characteristics of God and His creation.
