For one who wishes to attain peace of mind, health, and happiness, it is of great importance that he learn to recognize his true being as a child of God and to separate this true self from the mortal concept.
The first chapter of Genesis states clearly (verse 27), "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." Here, then, is authority for one's claiming that man is a spiritual being, not a material one. God, Spirit, cannot conceive a mortal or material creation. This premise is fully explained in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
A diligent study of this textbook is a great help to one in learning to differentiate between the false and the true. It states (p. 548): "Christian Science separates error from truth, and breathes through the sacred pages the spiritual sense of life, substance, and intelligence. In this Science, we discover man in the image and likeness of God. We see that man has never lost his spiritual estate and his eternal harmony."
