I prize most dearly the absolute confidence and conviction I have gained in Christian Science: that all human problems can be solved through an understanding of God. There have been so many of my own problems solved in the past thirty years, healings of disease, pain, lack, fear, inharmony, that although every problem has not yet been solved nor has every question been answered, I know that this can be accomplished and will be, and I am immeasurably grateful.
I am especially grateful that my mother had the courage to urge me to read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy in spite of my objections. It certainly changed my life! I was very young and about to have my first baby, and I was very fearful. But the concept which I glimpsed through this reading, of a dear Father, who enfolds His children in limitless good, gave me great inspiration and joy. I read the book through almost three times. I did not attempt to understand all that I read. But I would grasp what I did understand and reach out for more.
I soon had the opportunity to prove God's healing power. The doctor who attended me at my baby's birth told me that I had an incurable, chronic kidney condition; also that because of a certain internal condition, I should not have another child. The doctor said emphatically that the kidney condition could not be cured, and he gave me pills to temporarily ease the situation. Soon, though, I decided that I must rely on my newfound understanding of God's love. But I was afraid of what my husband, who had been lovingly reminding me to take the pills, would say. Then I decided that I would trust God to take care of that too. I took no more pills from then on, and nothing at all was said about them; nor did my husband ever mention them again.
