Thoughts in a Christian Science Reading Room

From the October 1963 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A quiet room, but on a busy street,
a room apart,
a place to go when sorrows beat
upon the heart
and find surcease from every human woe.
But more, far more!
We glimpse a glory here, behold as through
an open door
the path of Truth that climbs from sense to Soul.
We enter in
and mount enraptured toward the shining goal,
where neither sin,
nor pain, nor grief, but love and gladness are,
and peace, not fear.
Is it so hard to reach? Is it so far?
It is as near
as our own faith that leaps from rock to rock
of healing proof,
and finds earth's shadows cannot block
the light of Truth;
as near as Love that fills this quiet room
with its all-power
to speed our upward path and make it bloom
with every flower
of holy thought that sheds such sweet perfume
through every hour
within this blessed room.
